BEIJING - China`s top social sciences academy granted honorary membership to Turkey`s Nobel Laureate novelist Orhan Pamuk.
Pamuk gave a conference Thursday at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) on novel writing. The theme was "Who we really are: From Kars to Frankfurt."
Pamuk said novel in contemporary ages became a global tool of communication through globalisation of literature.
Pamuk said he was honoured by the membership offered by CASS and said his novels published in 56 languages were also popular in China.
Pamuk said Chinese readers mostly favoured his novel "My name is red" while American readers favoured "Snow" the most.
Pamuk said in China and other non-western countries his books were read with a frame of mind looking for a solution to nations` dilemma between modern and traditional cultures.
