SELCUK - The "Math Village" founded in the Selcuk town of Izmir (Aegean) by the Nesin Foundation, that was banned last summer due to legal problems, will reopen in June.
Nesin Foundation`s Chairman Prof. Ali Nesin, also head of Istanbul Bilgi University Math Department, said they had finally fulfilled his father, Aziz Nesin`s --best known Turkish humorist-- last wish, 12 years after his death.
Nesin said world`s prominent mathematicians like Alexandre Borovik (Russian ), Ashna Sen (Indian), David Pierce(British) , Andrei Ratiu (Romanian) would give courses and seminars in the Math Village.
Nesin said they would organise a series of summer courses for High School math teachers and outstanding university and high school students.
"This is not just about courses. Many people who dedicated their lives to Mathematics will live side by side, eat together and exchange their views and experiences with each other at a beautiful mountain all summer long," said Nesin.
Nesin said the math village would provide courses mostly between June 14-September 15 and pointed out that it would also provide winter courses in the future.
Nesin said they constructed 7 dorm style rooms, and 9 regular rooms for this summer equipped with 75 beds and other amenities. He said with tents they could increase the hosting capacity to 100 people.
Students will be charged 10 YTL per day during their stay in the math village.

Aziz Nesin was a popular humorist and a political activist who championed free speech. He who wrote over 100 books.
In 1972, he founded the Nesin Foundation with the purpose of taking, each year, four poor and destitute children into the Foundation`s home and providing them every necessity - shelter, education and training, starting from elementary school - until they completed high school, a trade school, or until they acquired a vocation.
Aziz Nesin had donated, gratis, to the Nesin Foundation his copyrights in their entirety for all his works in Turkey or other countries, including: all of his published books, all plays to be staged, all copyrights for films, and all his works performed or used in radio or television.
