GAZIANTEP - Iraq`s Trade Minister Abd al-Falah al-Sudani said Wednesday that their aim was not only to enhance commercial and economic relations with Turkey but also to maintain the recent economic growth in Turkey and Iraq.
A delegation of Iraqi ministers, arrived in southeastern city of Gaziantep, to attend the 3rd International Iraqi Fair which will start tomorrow.
The delegation visited Gaziantep Chamber of Commerce. Speaking during the visit, Al-Sudani said the Iraqi government did its best to enhance relations between the two countries. He pointed out that Gaziantep was an important city as it was a door opening to entire Turkey.
He said thanks to efforts of PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan and State Minister Kursad Tuzmen commercial relations had improved, and noted that further improvement could be obtained through private sector agreements.
Al-Sudani said there were over 80 Turkish companies making business in the north of Iraq. He expressed his hope that this number would grow three folds Iraq wide and said Turkish companies could play a role in Iraq`s economic development.
"At the same time, we encourage Iraqi businessmen to make investments in Turkey. We support these because it contributes to economies of Iraq and Turkey," said Al-Sudani.
He said one border gate between Iraq and Turkey was not enough and pointed out that two or more border gates should be opened.
