STRASBOURG - The European Parliament (EP) will debate a report on Turkey Wednesday.
In a plenary session the EP will discuss and vote a report on Turkey, prepared by Christian Democrat parliamentarian Ria Oomen-Ruijten.
The report is non-binding and recommendatory.
The Committee on Foreign Affairs of the EP adopted the report in April. It basically calls on Turkey to speed up reforms particularly in areas of human rights and democracy.
Turkey became a European Union (EU) candidate country in December 1999. The union launched accession talks with Turkey on October 3rd, 2005.
