-YACHTS REACH TRNC
GIRNE - Yachts attending 19th Eastern Mediterranean Yacht Rally (EMYR) arrived in Girne, the port city of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on Saturday.
Yachts from several countries such as Turkey, Spain, Britain, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Ireland, France, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Norway and Switzerland, participating in the EMYR are expected to depart from TRNC on May 19th.
The yachts, after touring southwest and southern shores of Turkey, will visit the ports of Lattakia in Syria, Jounieh Marina in Lebanon, Haifa and Ashkelon Marinas in Israel, Port Said in Egypt and finally Herzliya Marina in Israel as the last call.
The EMYR began at Istanbul`s Atakoy Marina on April 20th will be concluded on June 18th in Israel.
Beginning from 1990, yachtsmen from all over the world converged on Turkey to participate in the Eastern Mediterranean Yacht Rally. In 1995, the traditional Rally route, (Antalya-Bozyazi-Girne), was extended from Istanbul to Kemer and then Syria, Lebanon and Egypt were included in the Eastern Mediterranean Yacht Rally.
Nearly 80 yachts from 19 different countries participated in the 18th annual EMYR rally in 2007.
