BODRUM - Famous Turkish cartoonist Oguz Aral (68) passed away in Bodrum town of western Mugla province on Monday.
Private Bodrum Hospital Head Doctor Erkan Inal told A.A. correspondent that Aral died of multiorgan insufficiency at 07.30 p.m.
Aral was born in Silivri, Istanbul in 1936. He left Istanbul State Fine Arts Academy and started to draw caricatures at various magazines and newspapers after 1950.
Aral is the founder of ''Girgir'' and ''Avni'' humor magazines. He increased circulation of Girgir more than 300,000 and made it Europe's third biggest humor magazine.
His most famous caricature character is ''Avanak Avni'' (Fool Avni).
Aral's caricatures are still published at Hurriyet newspaper. He also has studies on theater, music and movies. Aral, who performed pantomime in various places of Anatolia, has also animated cartoons.
Aral is brother of author Inci Aral and cartoonist Tekin Aral.
