BRUSSELS - European Union`s enlargement commissioner blamed the terrorist organization PKK for "heightening tensions" ahead of traditional spring festival celebrations in southeast Turkey.
"I condemn the terrorist organization PKK for heightening tensions by calling for revolt ahead of the Nevruz celebrations," Olli Rehn told Friday a session of the European Parliament (EP) in response to question by EP`s German member Feleknas Uca.
Three people were killed during Nevruz celebrations in March in Turkey`s southeastern province of Hakkari and the eastern province of Van.
Rehn also said it was important that Turkish security forces had acted with caution and avoided use of disproportionate force during the incidents.
