WASHINGTON, D.C. - Politicians from the Arab countries have commented that Turkey`s ruling Justice & Development (AK) Party should not be closed down by the court during a panel discussion hosted by the think-tank organization, Century Foundation, on "Is Turkey`s AK Party a model for the Arab World?" in Washington, D.C.
Algerian parliamentarian Abderazzak Makri of the Movement of Society for Peace said that if the Constitutional Court would decide to outlaw the AK Party, it would be a negative message for the Arab countries.
Those who benefit from closure of the AK party would be the al Qaeda and the other excessive forces, he said.
Tunisian MP Muhammed Yetim of the Justice & Development Party (PJD) also commented that a likely court decision to ban Turkey`s AK Party would have negative repercussions in the Arab world, and added that they expected the western world not to allow such a development.
Ibrahim al Hudeybi of the Egypt`s Muslim Brothers said that the AK Party had always acted reasonably and responsibly during its political power.
These politicians said that their political parties were in favor of democracy and pluralism and against acts of violence. They said that they did not consider the AK party a model due to different conditions in their own countries, but they benefitted from its experiences.
