ISTANBUL - Turkish State Minister Kursad Tuzmen said Thursday traffic passing through Turkey will be more important as world`s economic center shifts to the Pacific region from the Atlantic region.
Speaking at the 31st World Congress of the International Road Transport Union (IRU) in Istanbul, Tuzmen said foreign trade can not grow without adequate and efficient land, sea, air and rail transportation.
"Land transportation has contributed to Turkey`s foreign trade significantly in the recent past. Turkey ranks first in Europe and second in the world as far as its land transportation is concerned. Our goal is to share the global cake in transportation with countries being represented in the current congress," Tuzmen said.
Another speaker at the congress, Turkey`s Transportation Minister Binali Yildirim said that eradicating all barriers in front of global land transportation will facilitate global peace and be a force in increasing societal welfare.
