ANTALYA - Turkish State Minister Mehmet Simsek said on Thursday that globalization was actually an opportunity for Turkey.
"We cannot lead anywhere by opposing globalization. Walls have been demolished in the world and now Turkey should renew itself," Simsek said when delivering a speech at the opening of "Mediterranean Business Talks" meeting.
Simsek described Turkey`s vision as: "Making Turkey a country having competitive power in global scale; creating an information society; and to finish European Union (EU) process".
"Turkey carries out a comprehensive reform program to fulfill this vision. First reform package consists energy market. Steps have been taken to liberalize and increase competition in this sector. The government has transferred around 1600 hydroelectric power plant projects to private sector and thus shortened the completion process of them," he said.
Simsek said Turkey attracted more than 50 billion USD in FDI in the past 3 years.
"There is no need for pessimism. Turkey has 6-7 percent growth potential and will become one of the biggest economies of the world in the years 2040-2050. I have no hesitation about medium and long term perspective of the country either," Simsek said.
