LONDON - British daily The Times said Wednesday that Turkey welcomed British Queen Elizabeth II "with the grown-up face of a country worthy of EU membership."
The daily described Queen`s second visit to Turkey as a "promising" one "to be a distinctly more sober affair," over their first trip 37 years ago when it said "the local reception was nothing short of ecstatic."
"The reason for the two visits is just a sign of the importance of Turkey to both the EU and the world, and highlights the breadth and depth of its relationship with the UK," the daily quoted Nick Baird, British ambassador in Ankara, as saying, who recounted that Prince Charles paid a visit to Turkey just six months ago.
