5th World Water Forum Presented In New York

UNITED NATIONS - The "5th World Water Forum Istanbul 2009" was presented during the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development in New York.
A special emphasis was made on the importance of the forum and the members of the commission were called to attend the 5th World Water Forum scheduled for March 16-22, 2009 in Istanbul to contribute to the solution of the problem.
5th World Water Forum Acting SG Prof. Ahmet Mete Saatci, World Water Council Executive Director Daniel Zimmer, 5th World Water Forum Ambassador Klaus Topfer, Turkish Foreign Ministry Deputy Undersecretary Selim Kuneralp, and Foreign Ministry Energy, Water and Environment Affairs Deputy DG Vural Altay attended the meeting.
According to the U.N. Environment Program, two out of every three people on Earth will live in water-stressed conditions by the year 2025 if present consumption patterns continue. Moreover, sustainability is a fast-growing problem that is directly affected by most global environmental issues, such as pollution, population growth, land use changes, and climate change.
"The ultimate goal of the 5th World Water Forum Istanbul 2009 is to motivate action to improve the management of water resources in the world, by raising awareness of the importance of water-related issues," Forum Ambassador Klaus Topfer earlier said.
