A British police officer from Somerset, southwest England, entered guilty pleas Monday on charges of indecent assault and unlawful sexual activity with a 14-year-old girl.
Kevin Hicks had served with the Somerset constabulary since 1986. The offenses occurred between April 2002 and February 2004. Hicks, who had also volunteered as a church youth worker, disclosed his conduct to clergy at his local congregation.
Presiding Judge Julian Lambert told Hicks he faced the full range of sentencing options and was in serious jeopardy. Hicks was remanded into custody pending his sentencing date.
Ironically, Hicks had received a commendation for bravery roughly nine years earlier after confronting a group of violent individuals.
