PARIS - Turkey will be represented at a pavilion and Turkish movies will be screened at this year`s Cannes Film Festival, scheduled to start on May 14th in France.
"The Three Monkeys", a film by Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan, which competes for the "Palme d`Or" award at the festival, will be screened on May 16th.
"Dry Summer", another Turkish film by director Metin Erksan, will be screened at the festival under the "Classical Films" category.
Turkish Director Fatih Akin, the winner of the best screenplay at last year`s festival with his movie "The Edge of Heaven", will be the Jury President in the "Un Certain Regard" category.
Turkey`s Culture and Promotion Office in Paris will open a pavilion at the festival and it will also hold a reception for the representatives of the cinema industry on May 17th.
Turkish film production and distribution companies will actively take part in this year`s festival, officials said.
The Cannes Film Festival, held for the first time in 1939, is one of the world`s oldest and most prestigious film festivals alongside Venice and Berlin. The festival is held annually (usually in May) at the Palais des Festivals et des Congres, in the resort town of Cannes, in the south of France.
The 61st Annual Cannes Film Festival will be held between May 14th and 25th, 2008.
