NEVSEHIR - Turkey`s minister for culture and tourism has indicated that Turkey became one of leading international tourism receipts of the world.
Speaking at a meeting with representatives of tourism sector, Ertugrul Gunay said, "number of tourists visiting Turkey was 13 million in 2003. This number exceeded 23 million in 2007. Turkey became the 9th most visited countries of the world and it was ranked the 11th among countries having the highest amount of tourism income."
"Although Turkey is recognized as an open air museum, number of tourists visiting our Turkey and our tourism income are not enough at all. We need to train our people. Also, we need to diversify our activities in the tourism sector. We have prepared a draft law to encourage the sector. We will ask touristic facilities in pilot regions to increase their standards. Prominent Cappadocia region will be one of these pilot regions," Gunay added.
