GAZA CITY, July 25 (AFP) - Three Palestinians were wounded Sunday in an Israeli helicopter attack on a house in the Zeitun neighbourhood of Gaza City, Palestinian security and medical sources said.
Security sources said three missiles were fired by two Apache helicopters, although only two of the devices exploded, at a house owned by Abu Malek Djoundieh, a member of the Islamic militant movement Hamas.
The Israeli military said that the air strikes targeted a Hamas weapons workshop.
Several people who had been inside the house on the eastern outskirts of Gaza City were seen fleeing the area shortly before the strike and the three casualties were outside the building.
There was no immediate word on their identities, but their condition was not thought to be life-threatening, said medics.
Large parts of the house were on fire after the attack which also scorched a car parked nearby, witnesses said.
An Israeli army statement said that the building had been used to manufacture rockets which have been fired from Gaza at southern Israel. Two Israelis were killed in one such strike late last month.
"The weapons workshop was a part of the weapons production industry in the Gaza Strip and was used by the Hamas terrorist organization and likely by other terrorist organizations to produce and develop a variety of weapons, notably Qassam rockets," the statement said.
Two Palestinian militants, including a leader of the armed wing of the radical group Islamic Jihad, were killed in an Israeli air strike in the same area on Thursday night.
