Turkish Cypriot Parliament Speaker Says Peace Deal Will Open Turkey's Way In Its E.U. Bid

ISTANBUL - Parliament Speaker of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus said Saturday that a settlement of the Cyprus issue and the inclusion of the Turkish Cypriots in the European Union would open Turkey's way in its EU bid.
"The Cyprus issue has been brought before Turkey as an obstacle in its membership negotiations. Therefore, a settlement to the problem will break down a European prejudice and speed up Turkey's march toward the Union," Fatma Ekenoglu told an Istanbul meeting.
Ekenoglu said cultural and economic isolations on Turkish Cypriots still continued, adding that unless these isolations were removed "no results will be taken on the negotiation table."
