ADANA - American pop star Madonna is about receive a case of Turkish lokum from a confectioner in Turkey who says the music icon "registered" with the lyrics of one of her songs that lokum belonged to Turkey.
Adnan Ozdogru, who owns a lokum company in the southern Turkish city of Adana, sent the sweet to Madonna to thank for her "support" with her title-track called "Candy Shop" with the lyrics "I`ve got Turkish delight baby and so much more."
"I was very happy when I heard `Turkish delight` in the lyrics and with that, Madonna, too, has registered that lokum is Turkish," Ozdogru said.
The sugar-coated sweet has caused a bitter controversy between Turkish and Greek Cypriot lokum makers when Greek Cyprus appealed for a EU trademark protection for their own version of the delicacy.
"I cannot give in to the claims that lokum is Greek and I will continue my struggle," Ozdogru said.
Ozdogru also said he would name a special version of his Turkish delight as "Madonna lokum," which he said would contain honey and aphrodisiac ingredients.
