GIRESUN - Giresun Island, the only island in the East Black Sea suitable for settlement, would become a shining star of tourism sector in the region, a tourism executive said on Saturday.
Emin Yilmaz, culture and tourism director in Giresun, said they launched initiatives to make the island a touristic attraction of Turkey and several restorations would be made in the island.
A cruise boat to Giresun Island would start to serve tourists in summer, Yilmaz said.
Giresun Island is a small island 1.2 miles from Giresun. It is the largest island on the Turkish Black Sea coast. The ruins of a roofless stone temple, fortifications, and two wine or oil presses stand on the island.
