Turkish Filmmaker Claims Best Director Title In U.S. Festival

NEW YORK - Turkish director Huseyin Karabey was named as the best new narrative filmmaker in New York Tribeca Film Festival.
Karabey`s "My Marlon and Brando" received great acclaim by the jury, which also presented the Turkish director with a 25 thousand USD prize.
"I want to dedicate this award to the people who lost their lives in Iraq," said Karabey. "We wanted to tell one of their stories."
Karabey`s film retells the tale of a Turkish actress Ayca Damgaci who left her home in Istanbul for Iraqi border in March 2003 just after the war began.
"My Marlon and Brando is a piece of rough magic, a film with a soul as light, a heart as heavy, and a will as steely as its heroine`s own," says Peter Scarlet, artistic director of the Tribeca Film Festival.
