New York Hosts Yahya Kemal Beyatli Commemoration Night

NEW YORK - A commemoration night for a leading Turkish poet and author Yahya Kemal Beyatly took place in New York, the United States on Friday.
A New York-based nongovernmental organization "Isik Binyili" organized the event to commemorate Yahya Kemal Beyatli at Turkevi. Turkish and U.S. people attended the night named "Yahya Kemal Beyatli: Life, Love, Death and Eternity". Beyatli`s poems were read in the night.
Turkish consul general in New York Basar Sen said Beyatli was a leading poet as well as a prominent diplomat.
Yahya Kemal Beyatly was a leading Turkish poet, author, and a politician. He was born in Skopje in 1884. He studied in the Faculty of Political Sciences in Paris, France. Having spent 9 years in Paris, he returned to Istanbul in 1912. Between the years 1915 and 1923, he worked as a university lecturer. He studied the historical works of French Parnassus poets. Consequently, he sought out a way to revitalize Turkish divan poetry, in order to create smooth and pure poetic lines.
