Turkey's Administrative Court To Elect Its New Chief

ANKARA - Turkey`s top administrative court will elect its new head in the second half of May.
Sumru Cortoglu, the chairperson of Turkey`s Council of State, retired on Tuesday under the age limit.
The new chairperson election process at the court will begin on May 20th.
Members of the court--Yilmaz Cimen, Mustafa Birden, Gursoy Gonenc and Turgut Candan have run their candidacies for chairperson so far.
A person has to be a member of the Council of State for eight years in order to be elected the chairperson of the top administrative court. S/he has to win votes of at least 44 members to become the new head of the court.
The chief judge of the court is elected by secret voting. If no result is gained in the first three rounds, there will be a fourth round between the two candidates who won the highest votes in the third voting.
If the court fails to elect a chairperson in the fourth round, the election process will be repeated.
The new chairperson of the Council of State will serve the court for four years if s/he does not retire under the age limit.
Becoming a member of the Council of State in September 1992, Cortoglu was elected the chairperson of the Council of State on May 2nd, 2006.
