Arab World's View Of U.S. Has Worsened: Poll

WASHINGTON, July 23 (AFP) - The Arab world's view of the United States, influenced by the war in Iraq, has worsened dramatically in the past two years, a Zogby International poll out Friday found.
In Egypt, a key US ally, nearly everyone surveyed (98 percent) had a negative view of the United States, sharply up from the 76 percent who felt that way in April 2002.
In Morocco, the percentage of those with a negative view of the United States surged from 61 percent in 2002 to 88 percent.
In Saudi Arabia negative feelings rose from 87 percent in 2002 to 94 percent in June 2004.
In Lebanon they were virtually unchanged, from 70 to 69 percent. In the United Arab Emirates there was a slight improvement from 87 percent with a negative view two years ago to 73 percent now.
Many of those surveyed based their views mainly on US foreign policy rather than cultural or other differences.
The poll of 3,300 people was taken in June in Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco and the UAE.
