OHRID - Turkish President Abdullah Gul said on Friday that Turkey`s adherence to the EU would help the Union`s turning into a global player.
"I believe an enlarged EU, which covers Turkey too, will strengthen its position in the world as an important actor for peace, prosperity, stability and harmony," said President Gul who delivered a speech in the 15th Summit of Presidents of Central European States, in Macedonia.
Gul said that solidarity and mutual understanding were necessary to settle peace and stability in the region.
Gul said that Turkey was closely following the developments in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kosovo. He added that one of the priorities of Turkey in foreign policy was completion of integration of southeastern European countries under the umbrella of NATO and the EU.
Gul said that Turkey had been interested in a united Europe. He said that Turkey was becoming an important energy corridor between Europe and the world`s natural gas and oil suppliers, adding that this was a new area of cooperation with the EU.
