High-speed Train Derails En Route To Ankara, Killing And Injuring Many (updated)

BILECIK/ANKARA - High-speed train derailed en route from Istanbul to Ankara, killing and injuring many on Thursday.
Sources told A.A correspondent that the train derailed near Pamukova town to northwestern Sakarya province.
According to preliminary reports, there are dead and injured in the derailed train.
The injured are being sent to hospitals.
Ali Kemal Ergulec, the Deputy Director General of Turkish State Railways (TCDD), said that four of the train`s cars overturned near Pamukova town.
Ergulec said that the train was as speedy as the other trains when passing through the scene of the accident, and noted, ``I don`t think the train derailed due to high speed.``
TCDD Deputy Director General Ergulec did not comment on the death toll or the number of injured.
The train was expected to arrive in capital Ankara at 11.15 p.m.
