CAIRO - Meeting of the Regional Initiative on Iraq ended in Egyptian capital Cairo on Wednesday.
Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari's proposal on holding a meeting on fight against terrorism between security departments and interior ministers of neighboring countries with Iraq was accepted in the meeting.
Following the meeting of the Regional Initiative on Iraq, a final statement was released.
The final statement underlined the necessity of neutralizing all terrorist and other armed groups threatening Iraq and neighboring countries.
The statement also underlined the necessity of territorial integrity, political independence, national unity and sovereignty of Iraq.
It noted that Iraqi people should determine their future freely, stressing that Iraqi people also had rights to control financial and natural resources of their country.
Stating that transfer of authority in Iraq was a step in establishment of a full democratic government, it also welcomed U.N. Security Council's resolution no: 1546 providing formation of interim Iraqi government and end of occupation in the country.
The final statement also expressed support to efforts of interim Iraqi government to fulfill its responsibilities in political and security field, underlining the support to efforts of Iraqi people to rebuild Iraq. The statement also called on international community to support those efforts.
Expressing concern over continuation of instability in security of Iraq, it stressed that this situation would affect negatively political process.
Foreign ministers of neighboring countries with Iraq condemned attacks on civilians, government officials, aid organizations, religious institutions, international organizations and diplomatic missions in Iraq.
The statement noted that foreign ministers of neighboring countries supported initiative of U.N. Secretary General to develop a comprehensive dialogue between neighboring countries and U.N. Security Council members, highlighting the importance of continuation of such meetings. Jordan's proposal on hosting following meeting was accepted.
