ANTALYA - 2008 NATO Network-Enabled Capability (NNEC) Conference has begun in the Mediterranean Turkish city of Antalya with a focus on NATO`s progress towards information and decision superiority in mission areas --including friendly force tracking, intelligence and surveillance sharing.
Deputy Chief of Turkish General Staff Gen. Ergin Saygun and Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Adm. Luciano Zappata made opening remarks of the conference at Antalya`s Kervansaray Lara Hotel.
The conference brings together nearly 350 participants, including senior NATO commanders, subject experts, industry leaders and national representatives of 26 allied countries as well as 12 PfP countries.
The participants will discuss the progress that the Alliance is making in `network-enabled` operations, which link NATO and national systems to give commanders superior information, situational awareness and command and control capabilities.
The conference will be the first post-Summit opportunity for NATO, national officials, experts and representative of industry to review progress and set priorities for the way ahead.
NNEC is the Alliance`s cognitive and technical ability to federate the various components of the operational environment, from the strategic level (including the NATO HQ) down to the tactical levels, through a networking and information infrastructure.
