ANKARA - A delegation led by Gunther Krichbaum, chairman of the German Parliamentary Commission for EU Affairs, held meetings at Turkish Parliament on Wednesday.
Turkish Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee acting chairman Mehmet Ceylan, who received members of the guest delegation, said that Turkey and Germany had always been in solidarity.
Ceylan said that sometimes there were negative developments between the two countries such as arson attacks against Turkish citizens` houses in Germany.
Ceylan said that integration of Turks living in Germany to the society was very important. He also added that they encourage Turkish citizens to learn German language.
Krichbaum said that the fire which broke out in a house in Ludwigshafen city killing nine Turks stemmed from a technical failure, and not because of hostility against Turks. He added that a Turkish team took part in the investigation which was carried out regarding the fire.
Referring to Migration Law in Germany, Krichbaum said that Germany wanted foreigners` be integrated into the society, and not be assimilated.
Krichbaum said that Turkey would join EU after it met required criteria, adding that Germany supported Turkey in this issue.
The guest delegation then met Turkey-Germany Interparliamentary Friendship Group chairman Mustafa Unal.
