Avci: Main Factor Behind Political Deadlock Is Uncrompromise Of Greek Cypriot Leadership

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Turgay Avcy emphasized that the actual reason behind the political deadlock in the Cyprus issue is because of the uncompromising approach exhibited by the Greek Cypriot leadership.

Foreign Affairs Minister Avcy underlined that the participation of Greek Cypriot leadership within the prevailing negotiations in Cyprus is an exercise to affix the Turkish Cypriot community to the Greek Cypriot state and that third parties must identify this observation.

In his written statement made yesterday, Avcy stated that the statement delivered by Greek Cypriot Foreign Affairs Minister Marcos Kyprianu had completely disregarded the March 31, 2004 UN Peace Plan (commonly referred to as the Annan Plan) which was a result of lengthy years of negotiations.

Foreign Affairs Minister Avcy underlined that the Annan Plan is supported by the international community and despite that the plan was sent to its communities for approval through referendums upon the request of the Greek Cypriot leadership, the plan was disapproved by the Greek Cypriot community, and that the actual reason behind the political deadlock in Cyprus is due to the uncompromising approach of the Greek Cypriot leadership.
