Representatives Of Tourism Sector Of Northern Cyprus Visit Syria

LATAKIA - Representatives of tourism sector of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) visited their colleagues in Syria on Tuesday.
The representatives aim to develop tourism volume between the two countries and also introduce tourism potential of their countries.
TRNC's Economy & Tourism Ministry Undersecretary Hasan Kilic said that relations between TRNC and Syria were developing rapidly. He said that thanks to ferry services between the two countries, relations in every area would further develop.
"We aim to increase the visits of tourists between the two countries, and also develop the cooperation," he said.
"We target to create an attractive and competitive destination in tourism area," Kilic added.
Kilic said that TRNC provided various incentives for tour operators, travel agencies, air and sea way organizations within that scope.
TRNC's Foreign Minister Turgay Avci will also participate in the meetings of Turkish Cypriot delegation in Syria.
Regular ferry services between TRNC's Gazimagusa port and Syria's Latakia port were launched in October 2007, after an interval of 28 years.
The voyages had been suspended for some time, but resumed on February 11th, 2008. The Akgunler Maritime Company was arranging the ferry voyages by a Georgian-flagged ferry. However, the Georgian authorities took back the flag. Then, the firm applied to Turkey and got necessary permits for Turkish-flagged voyages.
