ASHKHABAD - Deputy Speaker of Turkish Parliament Nevzat Pakdil had a meeting with Parliament Speaker Akja Nurberdieva of Turkmenistan in Ashkhabad on Tuesday.
Pakdil and Nurberdieva discussed the process of Turkmenistan's taking part in the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkish-speaking states in the meeting.
The proposal to form a parliamentary assembly among Turkish-speaking states was made by President Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan in 1991. The first meeting was held in southern Turkish city of Antalya on February 21st-22nd, 2008, with the participation of Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan will be invited to the second meeting to be held in Turkey in June.
The Assembly aims at further improving cooperation and cultural relations among Turkish-speaking countries.
