IZMIR - Miners from the Balkan countries will convene in a port city in the Aegean coast of Turkey.
Balkan's miners would meet in a congress in the Turkish city of Izmir from October 1st to October 3rd, 2009, an executive of Izmir's fair organization company said on Tuesday.
"The congress will take place within the scope of MINEX-2009 Mining, Natural Resources & Technologies Fair," Dogan Isleyen, the director general of the fair company, told AA correspondent.
Isleyen said around 1,000 delegates from Turkey, Greece, Albania, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia and Slovenia would participate in the congress.
Also, academicians and researchers would hold scientific and technical sessions on the sidelines of the congress, the executive said.
Isleyen said participants would discuss social, political, economic and environmental dimensions of mining industry in Balkan countries, possible solutions of problems faced in the industry, further improvement of bilateral relations, and the status of Balkan mining industry in the world.
The previous mining congress of Balkan countries was held in Serbia in 2007, and it was attended by Germany and Russia as well.
More than 100 companies from Britain, Denmark, Poland, South Africa, Italy, Canada, Czech Republic, Switzerland, United States, Slovenia, Romania, Australia, Austria, Finland, Germany and Turkey joined the MINEX 2007 fair. The three-day fair received some 3,000 visitors.
The fair is organized every two years with the support of Izmir's fair organization company and Chamber of Mining Engineers of Turkey.
