PARIS - Turkish Airlines (THY) Executive Board Chairman Candan Karlitekin and Airbus Director General Noel Forgeard signed a letter of intent on purchase of 36 planes in Paris on Wednesday.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who is currently in Paris on an official visit, and French President Jacques Chirac were also present in the signing ceremony.
Sources stated that Airbus would deliver 36 planes at a cost of 1.5 billion U.S. dollars to THY, starting from end 2005, in accordance with the letter of intent, adding that delivery of planes to Turkey would end in 2008.
Noting that THY would finance Airbus planes through three methods, sources said that THY would use leasing to be taken from European Eximbank, financial and operational leasing to purchase the planes.
THY will buy 36 A-320, A-321 and A-330 planes from Airbus company.
