CHAMPIONSHIP GRIP
Galatasaray soccer club defeated Fenerbahce 1-0 in a game played at Ali Sami Yen Stadium on Sunday. With this win, Galatasaray has become the number one team in the Turkcell Super League and is highly likely to become the champion. Galatasaray's only goal came from Nonda in the 37th minute.

IF WE KNEW THEN WHAT WE KNOW NOW, WE WOULD NOT HAVE SIGNED CUSTOMS UNION WITH EU, TUZMEN
Turkey's State Minister Kursad Tuzmen said that "if we knew then what we know now, we would not have signed the Customs Union with the European Union". After evaluating figures of 1996, we come to the conclusion that a free trade agreement with the EU would have been more advantagous than the Customs Union, Tuzmen noted.

2 SOLDIERS KILLED IN BINGOL
In a clash with PKK terrorists in eastern province of Bingol's Genc town, two Turkish privates were killed. A second lieutenant was injured during the clash.

President Abdullah Gul made important contributions to a social responsibility campaign that was launched to prevent traffic accidents.
Gul himself talked in the introductory film that was prepared to prevent the accidents.

RIVER ASI EXAMINATION FROM SYRIAN PRESIDENT
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Syrian President Bashar al-Asad discussed Asi River crisis between the two countries.
Water does not flow to Turkey after Syria closed the gates of the dam.
Speaking to his aides, al-Asad said, "do whatever necessary. Sharing what we have is a requirement of friendship."
Erdogan said farmers in southeastern province of Hatay were in difficulty as Asi River got dry.

TWO MORE SOLDIERS KILLED
Two privates, Hasan Sahin and Mustafa Tuluk were killed in clash with the terrorists near Genc town of southeastern province of Bingol.
A second lieutenant was injured.

Galatasaray soccer team, which won final derby at Ali Sami Yen Stadium against Fenerbahce soccer team, is running for championship. Galatasaray, which knocked down Fenerbahce with the score of Nonda, is now three points ahead of Fenerbahce by gaining a big advantage for championship. If Galatasaray gains four points in the remaining two weeks in Turkcell Super league, it will be a happy ending for it for the 17th time.

TWO PRIVATES KILLED IN BINGOL
Privates Hasan Sahin and Mustafa Tuluk were killed in a clash with PKK terrorists in Genc town of eastern province of Bingol. Also one sublieutenant was injured. Major Ercument Turkmen, who was also earlier killed, was laid to rest in Mudanya yesterday.

Former minister Abdullatif Sener said he believed a new political formation would cover the vacuum in politics.
Asked if he had preparations for a party, Sener said, "there is need for an appropriate atmosphere for this. I am trying to form this atmosphere. I think that a new force center can be established in addition to current political parties."

RAIN EXPECTED IN NEXT THREE DAYS
Rain will continue throughout Turkey three more days. Temperatures will be in seasonal average starting as of Wednesday. There will be strong rain particularly in Istanbul, Aegean, and central and western parts of the Black Sea.

ECONOMIC ALARM
The World Bank has warned the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party about current account deficit, high inflation and distribution of income. A recent report prepared by the World Bank on Turkey is full of warnings to the Turkish government. The report said that the people of Turkey would support economic reforms if affluence is distributed fairly among regions, sectors and social groups.

7 SOLDIERS KILLED IN 3 DAYS
Seven Turkish soldiers were killed in the past three days in clashes with PKK terrorists in south-eastern Turkey. The most recent operations took place in Sirnak and Bingol provinces.

MEDICAL STUDENTS TO BE SENT ABROAD
Health Ministry takes a new step to meet physician need of the country. 300 medical students, who become successful in university exams, will be sent to Europe and the United States every year with state scholarship.

MPs WHO SMOKE WILL PAY FINES OUT OF THEIR SALARIES
A new law that penalizes those who smoke in closed areas will go into effect on May 1st, 2008. Speaker of the Turkish Parliament Koksal Toptan said that those MPs who smoke in the parliament will pay fines to be deducted from their salaries.

Major Ercument Turkmen and privates Idris Polat and Murat Dogru, who were killed by PKK terrorists, were laid to rest with tears and prayers. During the funeral, wife of Idris Polat said that she would not cry and please the traitors.
