ANKARA - Chairman of the Turkish Republican People`s Party (CHP) said on Saturday that Islam was extremely nice when it was with secularism.
Speaking to party loyalists at the 32nd Convention of CHP, chairman Deniz Baykal said that secularism must be protected so that religion did not turn into fanaticism, enmity and intolerance.
"You must be proud of your religion and protect the secular system. We can get out of the political crisis only through this way of thinking," Baykal said.
Regarding Turkish citizens of Kurdish origin, Baykal said that "CHP will find solutions to all the problems of Kurds."
"We will strongly be against terrorism. We will solve our problems within ourselves," Baykal also said.
CHP will elect its new chairman at the convention.
