BERLIN - EU Commissioner for Enlargement Olli Rehn said Turkey needed to comply with European values and standards regarding political parties.
Rehn got together with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin and discussed Turkey`s EU bid and recent developments in Turkey.
Rehn told reporters from Turkey, that he and Steinmeier shared the same view that the secular democratic reform process in Turkey should be continued. He said EU ought to be loyal to its commitments and Turkey ought to continue reforms with determination.
Commenting on the prohibition lawsuit filed against Turkey`s ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party, Rehn said "political parties can be closed only if they approve of violence or terrorism."
