BAKU - Turkey`s labor and social security minister warned Azerbaijan not to repeat Turkey`s past mistakes in the area of social security.
Faruk Celik who is on a formal trip to Azerbaijan met with his Azerbaijani counterpart Fizuli Alekperov. The two ministers held a joint press conference after their meeting.
Celik commented on Turkey`s new social security law and said it would rehabilitate the pension and health insurance system and other social services in Turkey. He said they would discuss the new legislation with the Azerbaijani officials.
Celik said deficits arising from social security systems ruined the future of countries and impeded their development.
"In this respect, I believe Azerbaijan as a young republic would not repeat Turkey`s past mistakes," said Celik.
The two ministers later attended the 5th meeting of the Turkey-Azerbaijan Joint Commission on social security. The social security policies of the two countries were discussed during the meeting.
A protocol foreseeing cooperation between Turkey and Azerbaijan was signed after the meeting.
Celik told reporters that they wanted to carry out joint projects in training of a qualified workforce and exchange experts in this field. He said they also wanted to cooperate in prevention of child labor.
