Euromed Trade Ministers Conference

LAMY SAYS THEY DECIDED TO PUT INTO FORCE A PROTOCOL ON WHICH CONSENSUS WAS REACHED LAST YEAR REGARDING TO RULES OF ORIGIN

ISTANBUL - European Union (EU) Commissioner for Trade Pascal Lamy said on Wednesday that they decided that a protocol on which a consensus was reached last year regarding the rules of origin, would go into force.
Lamy who took the floor in the Fourth Conference of Euro-Mediterranean (Euromed) Trade Ministers in Istanbul, stated that they aimed to develop trade in the region.
Noting that trade rose by 20 percent in Europe-Mediterranean region in the last four years, Lamy said that trade balance was now in favor of Mediterranean countries.
Recalling that textile quotas would be lifted at the end of this year, Lamy said that what was important was to transform Europe-Mediterranean region to an integrated textile region.
