KUWAIT - High-level officials from Turkey, USA and Iraq gathered in Kuwait on Tuesday to discuss various issues such as the fight against terrorism and the current situation in Iraq.
Turkey`s Foreign Minister Ali Babacan, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Iraq`s Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari held a 30-minute meeting within the framework of the expanded ministerial meeting of Iraq`s neighboring countries in Kuwait.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Babacan said that Turkey, USA and Iraq carried on with their joint fight against terrorist organization PKK.
He also said Turkey was ready to contribute to Iraq`s stability.
U.S. Secretary of State Rice told reporters that Iraq could not be a shelter for terrorists.
She said terrorist organization PKK was a common enemy whose activities had a negative impact on Iraq`s stability, as well as the security in the neighboring countries.
Iraqi minister Zebari also said that PKK was a terrorist organization.
Apart from terrorism and Iraq`s stability, the three high-level officials discussed ways to improve cooperation between their countries in areas such as economy and energy as well.
Prior to the tripartite meeting, Babacan held separate talks with Rice and his Iranian counterpart Manuchehr Motaki.
The expanded ministerial meeting of Iraq`s neighboring countries began in Kuwait on Tuesday.
Babacan is representing Turkey in the meeting, which also brings together representatives from UN Security Council, European Commission, Organization of Islamic Conference and Arab League.
