BRUSSELS - The European Union (EU) extended support to Iraq`s neighboring countries meetings which were initiated under the leadership of Turkey in 2003.
EU Presidency said on Tuesday that constructive engagement of Iraq`s neighbors remained essential to achieve peace and stability in Iraq.
The Union underlined the mutual benefits of continuing dialogue and cooperation between Iraq, its neighbors and the international community. It said that expanded foreign ministers` meeting of countries neighboring Iraq offered an excellent platform within that scope.
The EU reiterated its clear commitment to contribute to the success of this process. It also encouraged the three working groups on refugees, security cooperation and energy to make further progress on technical co-operation.
