Austrian Foreign Minister Says Eu Cannot Act As Political Police On Turkey's Domestic Discussions

ANKARA - Austria`s foreign minister said Monday that Turkey needed to settle domestic discussions by itself, adding that "its European partners" could not be expected to intervene.
"Turkey needs to clarify certain disputes internally and no one of those disputes today is about how to understand and perceive secularism," she said when asked to comment on a lawsuit filed to close the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party.
"This is a process which Turkey will pass through on its own and European partners cannot be expected to act as political police or a referee," Plassnik told a joint press meeting with her Turkish counterpart Ali Babacan in Ankara.
"We want Turkey and the Turks to move ahead with the reforms process not for Austria or the EU but for Turkey and the Turks," Plassnik said.
