RAMALLAH, West Bank, July 20 (AFP) - Former Palestinian information minister Nabil Amr was seriously wounded here Tuesday night by armed Palestinians who beat him and shot him several times, a security source said.
A small group of armed men were waiting for Amr at the front door of his house, where they grabbed him, beat him and then dragged him for some 150 metres (yards) before shooting him, the source said.
It was not immediately clear whether Amr, who was taken to hospital afterwards, had been coming home or leaving when the incident occurred.
Doctors said he had been shot several times in the right leg, and that while his condition was serious his life was not in danger.
Amr served as information minister under the previous Palestinian premier, Mahmud Abbas, who was succeeded in November 2003 by Ahmed Qorei. He is now a Palestinian MP, representing veteran leader Yasser Arafat`s Fatah movement.
A year ago, his house was shot at after he issued a severe criticism of Arafat`s leadership.
