CAIRO, July 20 (AFP) - Palestinian factions will gather in Egypt again in September to try to agree to a ceasefire in attacks against Israel, Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat`s national security adviser said here Tuesday.
"Egypt will welcome the intra-Palestinian dialogue in September," general Jibril Rajoub said.
"Egypt is ready to restart a dialogue in Cairo at the soonest available opportunity," he said, without giving more precise details.
Rajoub said he had met during his visit with Egyptian intelligence chief General Omar Suleiman, who is in charge of the Israeli-Palestinian file for Cairo, and President Hosni Mubarak`s chief adviser Osama al-Baz.
A dozen Palestinian factions, notably Arafat`s Fatah group, as well as Islamic militant groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad, met in Cairo in December to discuss a truce, but the talks collapsed.
Egypt has notably also agreed to help facilitate Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon`s plan to evacuate the Gaza Strip, but clashes have recently erupted in the territory between armed factions and Arafat`s security services.
