Turkish And Australian Bands To Take Stage On Anniversary Of War Of Dardanelles

CANAKKALE - Turkish and Australian orchestras will give a jazz concert on the 93rd anniversary of the Battle of the Dardanelles.
A university in the western Turkish city of Canakkale and Australian Consulate in this city will organize the concert on April 22nd, a statement of the university said on Friday.
Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University`s jazz band and the Royal Australian Air Force Band will take stage in the concert at the Troia Cultural Center on the university campus.
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. and the bands will first perform one after the other, and then take stage together.
In 1915 (during the World War I), the Allies sent a massive invasion force of British, Indian, Australian, and New Zealander troops to attempt to open up the Canakkale Strait (Dardanelles). At the battle of Gelibolu (Gallipoli), Turkish troops trapped the Allies on the beaches of the Gallipoli peninsula. British general Sir Ian Hamilton`s force was unsuccessful in its attempt to capture the Gallipoli peninsula, and a withdrawal was ordered in January 1916, after 10 months and more than 200,000 casualties.
Anzac (Australian and New Zealander Army Corps) Day is commemorated by Australia and New Zealand on April 25th every year to remember members of the ANZACs who landed at Gallipoli in Turkey during World War I.
