IZMIR - An international association awarded Turkey`s president on Friday.
The International Federation Of Consular Associations (FICAC) decided to give its "Gold Star Award" to Turkey`s President Abdullah Gul.
During a ceremony held in the Aegean province of Izmir, Gul`s award was delivered to Izmir Governor Cahit Kirac, as the president could not attend the ceremony due to a last-minute change in his program.
FICAC President and Jamaica`s Honorary Consul in Turkey Arnold Foote said during the meeting that Gul was an experienced individual, a loyal democrat, a confident European and a unique leader.
Foote also said Gul was a modern revolutionist and a great leader who would overcome the multi-dimensional problems of the 21st century and determine the destiny of Turkish people.
FICAC was established in Copenhagen in October 1982. It was born of the necessity to bring together Consular Associations or Corps from all over the world and to share experience, and coordinate efforts to enhance the status and effectiveness of the Consul, the oldest institution serving International bilateral relations.
FICAC, which is a global network of Consular Associations created to support and improve the status, legitimacy and effectiveness of all consular officers in all receiving States, enjoys since 1993 the status of a United Nations NGO (Ecosoc Observer Status).
