LEFKOSA - Turkish Cypriot president met a high level Russian diplomat in Lefkosa, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on Friday.
President Mehmet Ali Talat of TRNC had a brief meeting with Vladimir Titov, the deputy foreign minister of Russia, in his office in Lefkosa.
Titov is actually holding talks in Cyprus.
"The window of opportunities for a settlement in Cyprus is now open, and the (settlement) process has speeded up," Titov told reporters after the meeting.
Titov said all parties should be involved in the process if a long-term solution was desired in the island.
Defining Friday`s meeting of Turkish and Greek Cypriot working groups and committees as positive, the Russian diplomat said he hoped those developments would pave the way for new accomplishments.
The Russian foreign minister earlier had a meeting with Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias.
Turkish and Greek Cypriot working groups and technical committees gathered in the buffer zone in Cyprus for the first time on Friday, after Talat and Christofias reached an agreement in March.
Talat and Christofias decided on March 21st to set up six working groups and seven technical committees.
