LEFKOSA - A senior British envoy said on Thursday that there was a big opportunity for a solution in Cyprus currently and such a chance should not be missed.
Replying to questions at a reception held at the residence of British High Commissioner Peter Millet, Joan Ryan, the special representative of Britain for Cyprus, said that the solution should be developed by the Cypriots for themselves.
Ryan described the agreement reached by Turkish and Greek Cypriot leaders on March 21st and the initiation of studies by technical committees and working groups as "great steps".
She also said the two parties should communicate with each other via face-to-face talks, not through the media.
British envoy said UN, Britain and the international community could contribute to the solution of the problem.
She said the guarantor power Britain desired to see unification, stability, security and prosperity in Cyprus, not separation, uncertainty or a deadlock.
Upon a question, Ryan said the meeting process could start by the end of June or the beginning of July if positive developments take place regarding the studies of the technical committees and working groups.
British envoy Ryan was first received by President Mehmet Ali Talat of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on Wednesday.
She later met TRNC Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer and Foreign Minister Turgay Avci.
