DUSSELDORF - Turkey`s Parliament Speaker denied allegations that he invited the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) to visit Turkey regarding the prohibition case filed against governmental Justice & Development (AK) Party.
Speaker Koksal Toptan told AA in Dusseldorf on Thursday that he was not informed about the alleged meeting between Turkish Parliamentarians and PACE President Luís Maria de Puig (in Strasbourg). He said all news that appeared in the media regarding the issue was imaginary.
Toptan said it was not in their agenda to invite De Puig to visit Turkey and said his only dialogue with him was restricted to congratulate De Puig when he was elected PACE President.
Toptan`s statement came after allegations which appeared in the Turkish media on Wednesday suggesting that PACE was getting ready to issue a communique (to react to the lawsuit filed against AK Party ) upon the call of the Turkish Delegation`s members from Ak Party.
A news story published in today`s edition of Turkish Daily Milliyet cited that a communique has been prepared by the PACE as a reaction to the prohibition case filed against Justice and Development (AK) Party.
The news story also alleged that De Puig had said the communique was written upon the request of the Turkish Delegation`s members from Ak Party. According to De Puig the same Parliamentarians had said that Turkish Parliament Speaker would soon invite him to Turkey regarding the issue.
