PARIS, July 20 (AFP) - Negotiations to sell mid- and long-range Airbus passenger aircraft to Turkish Airlines are being finalised, the office of French President Jacques Chirac said Tuesday after he met with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The contract was discussed Monday evening between French Prime Minster Jean-Pierre Raffarin and Erdogan, who is on an official visit in France to promote his country's candidacy for the European Union.
Turkish Airlines is shopping for 50 mid- and long-range airplanes to renew its aging fleet.
The contract, worth two billion dollars (1.6 billion euros), is expected to be divided between Airbus and its US rival Boeing.
