ANKARA - Laura Kennedy, the U.S. State Department Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs, met on Tuesday Turkish Foreign Ministry Deputy Undersecretary Ali Tuygan.
After the meeting, Kennedy told reporters that she discussed with Tuygan topics such as Iraq, Cyprus, Caucasus and Central Asia . Kennedy said she would continue to cooperate with Turkish officials on issues of particular importance for Turkey.
After her meetings in Ankara, Kennedy will visit Athens (on Wednesday) and then proceed to Cyprus to meet Turkish and Greek Cypriot officials. Kennedy will discuss details of an economic assistance package Washington planned to extend to Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), in her meetings with TRNC officials.
The Bush Administration had announced that it would extend about 30.5 million U.S. dollars of economic assistance to TRNC to contribute to its economic development.
